Forklift spare parts: Axle shafts, ring gears, and planetary carriers

The axle shafts, ring gears, and planetary carriers in forklift spare parts are the core transmission components of the drive system, working together to achieve power transmission and torque reduction.

Axle shafts connect the differential to the wheels, transferring torque from the transmission to the drive wheels. Their inner ends are splined to the axle gears, while their outer ends are secured to the wheels via wheel hub bolts, ensuring stable power output. In wheel-end reduction mechanisms, the axle shaft splines directly drive the sun gear (not the wheel), which then rotates the wheel rim after secondary reduction via the planetary gear set.

The ring gear, a large, annular gear, serves as the fixed internal gear in the planetary reduction mechanism, meshing with the planetary gears to form the reduction mechanism. Rigidly fixed to the drive axle housing via splines, it remains stationary, forcing the planetary gears to orbit inside it, achieving torque reduction and torque increase. Long-term loads can easily lead to tooth wear or poor meshing, so regular inspection of tooth profile integrity and mounting flatness is required.

The planetary carrier serves as the supporting framework for the planetary gears, securing multiple planetary gears via the planetary axles. Together, they form the core transmission element of the planetary reduction mechanism. The sun gear (driven by the axle shafts) rotates the planetary gears. The planetary gears mesh with the fixed ring gear, forcing the planetary carrier to orbit around its axis. The output end of the planetary carrier is bolted to the wheel hub, ultimately driving the wheels. Bearings at both ends are prone to erosion due to overload or insufficient lubrication, and deformation and scratches on the planetary gear gaskets can cause abnormal transmission noise.
