In the preheating system of a diesel engine, the timer relay is a core control component. Its function and working principle vary depending on the type of preheating system. The timer relay ensures reliable starting of the diesel engine in low-temperature environments by coordinating preheating time, temperature feedback, and circuit on/off. Different systems (such as fixed delay, variable delay, and super preheating) have different focuses in their timer logic, but the core goal is to optimize preheating efficiency and starting performance.

Glow Plug Monitor Type

Components: Glow plug, monitor, relay, etc.

Working Principle: When the starter switch is in the "G" position, the circuit is connected, the coil attracts the glow plug, causing it to heat up, and the monitor emits a red light. When the switch is turned to the "START" position, the new circuit prevents the monitor resistance from affecting the glow plug.

Fixed Delay Type

With G Position: When the switch is in the "G" position, the relay operates, the indicator light illuminates for approximately 17 seconds and then turns off, and the relay continues preheating until the "START" position.

Without G Position: The timer controls the indicator light to illuminate for approximately 5 seconds, the relay operates for approximately 18 seconds, and after the switch is turned to the "START" position, the relay is no longer controlled by the timer.

Variable Delay Type

Control Logic: The preheating timer operates based on the coolant temperature and the alternator voltage.

Work Process: When the switch is turned to the "ON" position, the timer operates, the indicator light illuminates, the relay is connected for a period of time, then the indicator light turns off, and then the relay disconnects. During startup, the relay remains connected; after startup, the timer senses a signal that causes the relay to disconnect.
