A magnetic velocity sensor is a device that uses changes in a magnetic field to detect the speed of a moving object. Its core principle is to convert mechanical motion (such as rotation or linear displacement) into an electrical signal through a magnetically sensitive element, and then calculate the speed.
They are mainly divided into the following two categories:
Hall effect velocity sensor principle: Based on the Hall effect, when a current is passed through a semiconductor material in a magnetic field, a Hall voltage is generated perpendicular to the magnetic field direction. Speed is measured by detecting changes in this voltage. Features: Requires an external power supply; can detect static or low-speed motion. Output is a digital signal (such as a pulse); high accuracy, fast response, and strong anti-interference ability. Commonly used in car engines, bicycle speedometers, etc.
Magnetoelectric speed sensor principle: Utilizing electromagnetic induction, when a magnetic target (such as a gear) approaches the sensor, an alternating electromotive force is generated in the coil, the frequency of which is proportional to the rotational speed. Features: No power supply required; output signal amplitude varies with speed. Simple and durable structure, but cannot detect static or zero-speed states. Suitable for speed monitoring in industrial equipment (such as motors and gearboxes).
