Main Types and Principles

Liquid level sensors can be divided into two main categories according to their working principle: contact type and non-contact type.

Contact type: including float type, capacitive type, hydrostatic type, etc. For example, float-type sensors trigger a signal by moving a magnetic float with the liquid level; hydrostatic sensors are based on the principle that the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid is proportional to the liquid level.

Non-contact sensors, such as ultrasonic and radar sensors, measure liquid level by emitting sound waves or electromagnetic waves and their reflection time. They are suitable for corrosive or high-temperature liquids.

When selecting a sensor, the properties of the liquid (conductivity, corrosiveness), measurement accuracy, and environmental conditions must be considered. For example, capacitive sensors are suitable for both conductive and non-conductive media, while ultrasonic sensors must avoid foam interference. Installation requires attention to the sensor immersion depth and interface sealing.
