This is particularly important in excavators because when the hydraulic system does not require a large amount of hydraulic oil, the speed controller can automatically reduce engine speed, achieving energy savings and reducing wear.

How the Speed Controller Works in an Excavator

In excavators, the speed controller typically works in conjunction with a controller (such as an AEC switch):

When the AEC switch is in the OFF position, if the hydraulic system demand is very low, the controller will directly control the speed controller, and the engine speed can be reduced by up to approximately 100 rpm.

When the AEC switch is in the ON position, the controller activates the governor, automatically reducing the engine speed to approximately 1300 rpm when hydraulic demand is low.

Furthermore, the governor sends signals to the controller via feedback sensors to precisely control the governor lever position, ensuring the engine speed matches the set value.
